Chelski Preview
By: Matt | February 6th, 2009To Stamford Bridge We Go
Saturday sees a depleted Hull side head south to London to take on a wounded Chelsea team. Making the trip without Daniel Cousin, Jimmy Bullard and Bernard Mendy does not bode well for the Tigers, but they can take confidence from an improved performance last week against West Brom, and a Chelsea team surely shaken by their defeat at Liverpool.
Fortunatley for the Blues, Fat Frank Lampard had his red card overturned, so he is available, as is most of the first team, outside of Petr Cech and Ricky Carvalho. Ricardo Quaresma is set for his debut for the Blues, which I am not looking forward to. I don’t care if he ‘flopped’ at Inter, the dude is class, has bundles of talent, and I am not looking forward to him running at our fullbacks.
I do have another feeling about Manucho breaking his duck (as I will every match until he does), so look for the Tigers to steal one, then tighten things up to close it out. While Stoke may have learned the hard way a few weeks ago that this method can backfire spectacularly, I think the Tigers have enough to pull it out. I hope.
*In honor of tomorrows meeting, I give you some absolutely classic footage of a 1966 FA Cup Quarter-Final between Chelsea and Hull City from Boothferry Park. The Tigers (in the then Third Division) battled ‘gallantly’, but eventually succumed, 3-1. Hopefully a better result tomorrow!
