Freefall? Time to Open the Chute
By: Matt | January 30th, 2009Baggies in the House
Anyone who saw Hull sadly capitulate to West Ham midweek can be forgiven for not having much hope in the Tigers survival. An incredible run to begin the season is well and truly over, and a relegation fight is approaching menacingly over Phil Brown’s shoulder. Hardly is all lost however, for we are still in January, and a home date with West Brom beckons on the weekend.
The previous meeting between these two sides saw the Tigers destroy the Baggies 3-0 at the Hawthornes, but the scoreline was a bit flattering to the visitors. The home side dominated for long stretches, and some good goal keeping kept them at bay, while clinical counterattack play (mainly by guess who – Geovanni) led the Tigers to victory. With the run of form Hull are in, this MUST be a home victory on Saturday. A look to the fixtures list shows Chelsea, Spurs and Blackburn all still to come in February, so the full three points is crucial in this encounter.
Whose In?
Jimmy Bullard should be fit for a start, while Matt Duke’s stellar performance in holding West Ham to only two should earn him another start. Also look for Manucho to open his account for the Tigers. Just have a feeling on this one.
Pardon?
In other news, the Tigers have signed French defender Steven Mouyokolo from Ligue 2 side Boulogne. If right now you have a quizzical look on, saying ‘Who?’ No worries, I did the same thing. Have faith, though, if he is half as decent as Zayatte has turned out to be, then that’s fine by me. Let’s sign all the no name continental players we can. Hope he can make the step up.
