Guthrie ‘Tackle’ Leaves Fagan with Broken Leg
By: Matt | September 15th, 2008So after awarding Danny Guthrie with the first annual ‘Joey Barton Influence Award’, it has come out that the tackle (and I can’t really call it that, more like ‘assault’) actually broke Craig Fagan’s leg.
Now two things here. The FA better get this right. I don’t have much faith in them to be honest, they never punish anyone for diving, which is blatant cheating, yet they give Luton Town the death penalty, punishing a club and group of fans for a long gone board. In this case, Guthrie can’t even pretend he was trying to do anything other than injure Fagan. It’s a shame, because I have never known Danny Guthrie to be that sort of player, and I don’t think he is, but wow, the Barton effect must really rub off on Tyneside.
Secondly, back to that diving bit I mentioned, to all those nancy types who roll around for three minutes after a tackle only to get the cold spray, and are back on the pitch double time, please watch the below. Craig Fagan had his leg broken, and tried to get up and go after Guthrie. No rolling, no crying, no hand out. Take a mental note for next time.

He should receive a hefty ban and yes great point about the floppers. He got right up and didn’t even roll around for a moment, broken leg and all. Real man that is.

I’m in complete agreement with you and I think it was a disgusting foul. I’m definitely in favour of a lengthy suspension that lasts longer, without pay, than the length of time Craig Fagan is out. Let him sit around till the spring -

Yeah, he def needs a long suspension, just a shame as I mentioned, because he seems to be a sound lad. I can imagine the frustration all the Newcastle players must have felt at that stage in the match, but zero excuses for that.
