Hull City 2 Shambles FC 1
By: Matt | September 13th, 2008Wow, what an afternoon that was. If you haven’t seen footage of the protests both inside and out of St. James Park today, catch MOTD or youtube it. I think my favorite part was the ‘Cockney Mafia OUT’ banner, which made its way around the park.
My second favorite part of the non-playing events was the Hull City strip. For anyone wondering why Hull came out wearing Newcastle’s white Adidas shorts and socks, it wasn’t because they thought they looked better, or some sort of solidarity showing with the players/supporters. The referee, and rightly so, deemed Hull’s all grey strip to be too close to the Magpies all-black kit, and we didn’t have a second kit.
Now seriously, do people not think of these things before hand? And sorry folks at the KC, this one is on us. Who packed the kit on the bus this morning/last night and said ‘Yeah, this is definitley going to work, us in dark grey, vs them in black’. Tune in (although I will give us a pass, we are new to this league remember
). From what I remember Fulham always has a sky blue kit, ONLY for their away match vs Newcastle, because they know they clash. So we’ll have to chat with Umbro about sorting that for next year.
Now to matters on the pitch: Marlon King buried a penalty after Nicky Butt took down Halmosi in the first half (although it wasn’t the most blatant foul, we’ll take it regardless), and then he secured his brace after cutting inside N’Zogbia and curling it inside the far post. Newcastle pulled one back, and scored one for the latter stages of the alphabet, when Xisco buried N’Zog’s rebound.
Now the Joey Barton Influence Award for the match goes to Danny Guthrie, who with about 2 seconds left tried to kick Fagan blatantly from behind, missed, ran five yards, and made sure he was on target this time, blasting through the back of his legs. Good job Danny. Because your club isn’t in enough trouble already, you now miss the next three games, and probably more because the boys at the FA probably will notice the fact you tried to kick him, MISSED, sprinted faster than you had all match to catch up to Fagan, and blasted him.
As for Hull we’ll take the three points (check), first away win in the prem (check), 4th position and champions league spot (che….em, we’ll wait till May for this one..).

Those grey shirts are terrible, why did Hull not just wear last seasons shirts against Newcastle – the amber ones without the black stripes. They could be like Fulham with their sky blue, just keep them for their away trips to Newcastle!
