International Review & Weekend Preview
By: Matt | September 12th, 2008How did the Tigers do on International duty? Lets take a look:
Sam Ricketts (Wales): Came on in the 2nd half in a 2-1 loss to Russia, did not play vs Azerbaijan.
Boaz Myhill (Wales): Unused substitute in both matches.
Paul McShane (Rep. of Ireland): Played last ten minutes vs Georgia, almost kept out Levan Kenia’s late goal in a 2-1 win, did not play vs Montenegro.
Richard Garcia (Australia): Played 12 minutes in a friendly win against the Dutch on Saturday, did not play in qualifier in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, 1-0 victory.
Peter Halmosi (Hungary): Did not play vs Sweden or Denmark.
Kamil Zayatte (Guinea): Played the full nine zero vs Zimbabwe in a nil nil draw. He’s new, but I like him already. Great name.
Daniel Cousin (Gabon): 3-0 win over southern African minnows Lesotho.
Weekend Preview
Newcastle scares me a bit at the moment. Yes they are a complete shambles, and turmoil off the pitch of such magnitude rarely translates into good performances on it. I just have a bad feeling that we will be the victim of a backlash by the players. Hopefully I am wrong, but the Tigers need to go into the match with their heads down, ready to work, as a strong defensive performance will certainly be required.
Phil Brown has said he will possibly change the lineup, and let’s hope that he does, being the last time out with that group was a 5-0 beatdown by Wigan side who didn’t even play that well in hindsight. Their superb finishing did us in, so leave it at that and lets move on. New addittions Zayatte and McShane will be available, as will hopefully be King, Boateng and Gardner. If they play, we should be able to get at least a point.
