Super Hull Smash Baggies
By: Matt | October 25th, 2008Hull City 3 WBA 0
Hull City came away with an eventually comfortable 3-0 win away to West Brom this afternoon in a delightfully entertaining match. The result was a bit harsh on the Baggies in fairness, as they dominated the early stages of the match, found themselves unlucky not to get a goal, and were eventually undone by some clinical Tiger finishing.
For Hull, it comes as a massive boost before a tough two weeks in which they face Man U and Chelsea. Now sitting joint top of the table (let’s all repeat that one more time. All together now: Joint Top of the Table. Wow.), the Tigers got tremendous performances from Geovanni (shocker), Marlon King, Dean Marney, Kamil Zayatte and Boaz Myhill.
Now for all of you who watched this match (and that should be all of you, it was the only 3pm kickoff), who agrees that Fabio Capello must be at least a little bummed that Boaz Myhill is Welsh not English. Anyone who watched the 90 will know that he is easily the superior of either James or Robinson, and certainly that of his opponent today, Scott Carson. His shot stopping ability was on full display, he commanded the penalty area, he didn’t get beat at his near post (ahem-Carson vs ManYoo), and he isn’t gaffe prone. Hopefully continued performances like this will bump him ahead of Hennessy as the Wales # 1.
Zayatte put in another solid performance, and is looking an absolute gem of a find by Hull’s scouts. His quick reaction and strength to poke home the first combined with his great tackle on Miller to deny him an early breakaway earned him man of the match accolades, and well deserved. Geovanni was unplayable behind the strikers, even getting in some solid challenges to go with his long range shooting and stunning diving header to get Hull’s second, a move he started himself. Marlon King wrapped up the points with a solid late finish on the counter-attack.
Now we look ahead to the midweek fixture home to Chelsea followed by Saturday’s fixture at Old Trafford (thanks for that one fixture makers) So previews of those later, for now lets go celebrate our place at the top of the table!!
