Tigers Go Through to FA Cup Quarters

By: Matt | February 26th, 2009

Hull City 2 Sheffield United 1

Hull City defeated Sheffield United in their replayed FA Cup tie at the KC on Thursday night. A makeshift lineup for the Blades could not cope with the premier league side, and bowed out 2-1. An own goal from Blades youngster Kyle Naughton was cancelled out by Billy Sharp, before an impressive Peter Halmosi sealed it for the Tigers.

Naughton may count himself unlucky to concede the own goal, as it wasn’t 100% clear that the ball had crossed the line. You can judge for yourself here, but the Tigers were good value to go through.

While some may feel that further progression in the Cup would be detrimental to the Tigers relegation fight, hopefully this will be the confidence boost so badly needed after the deflating home loss to Spurs on Monday night. Sunday sees a showdown with similarly struggling Blackburn, which will be absolutely massive, while in the Cup they move on to face either Arsenal or Burnley.
