Weekend Review
By: Matt | November 3rd, 2008Man U 4 Hull City 3
Wow what a match that was. As I groggily woke up at 4am to drag myself to the airport to catch a 6am flight to Manchester on Saturday, I contemplated just turning off the alarm and going back to sleep. Just kidding.
The Tigers pushed United to the brink, scoring two quick goals to come back from 4-1 down, and pressed them hard the last few minutes. While sitting in the home section directly to the right of the travelling supporters wasn’t the ideal situation, it was a fantastic match to watch. Fair play to Bernard Mendy for coming on late and scoring a tremendous lob over Van der Sar, then cutting across the defender to draw a penalty which Geo duly converted. The battled right to the end, which in my opinion was delightful to watch, even though we didn’t find the equalizer. Not many teams get three at Old Trafford, and then put the home team under the cosh for the last 5 minutes.
One player who was immensely impressive I thought was Kamil Zayatte. While he might have been at sea for some of United’s goals, he’s presence is fantastic. He seems to always get in the right challenges, he is strong, and he did very well stepping up and disrupting the passing lanes. The best player overall I felt was Berbatov. The dude is just freakishly good. He plays at a different speed than everyone else, and he seems to be aware of absolutley everything around him, at all times. I’m telling you, he has somehow gained a football omniscience, and is just hiding the secret from everyone else.
So while we may have shipped seven goals in our last two matches, no worries, it was against the defending champion and runner up of Europe, so we’ll bounce back. Even Sir Alex in the program notes for Saturday’s match said there is ‘no doubt’ that Hull will beat the drop this year. I’m not saying anything until we hit 40 points. So shush Cousin about the UEFA cup, don’t jinx us.
